Strategy Session on Juvenile Justice
You are cordially invited to join the Campaign for Youth Justice and Justice for DC Youth on Wednesday October 21st, 2009 for a strategy session on juvenile justice in Washington, DC.The purpose of the strategy session will be to identify & prioritize key "next steps" for juvenile justice reform in the District of Columbia, building off the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Commission on Juvenile Justice issued in 2001. We will hold a series of meetings during the day to discuss these key issues that many of you have identified from previous discussions over the course of the past year:
- Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC)
- Transfer to adult court and placement in adult jails
- Community-based Alternatives to Detention/Incarceration
- Institutional care
If you would like to participate, SIMPLY REGISTER BELOW no later than Friday, October 16th.
Following this meeting, we will reconvene the group in its entirety on Wednesday November 4th, 2009 at the New Beginnings Youth Development Center (8300 Riverton Ct. Laurel, MD 20724), to present our recommendations as a "platform for reform" to DC officials. This will also be an occasion to tour the facility and have our voices heard by the media! More details to follow!
We hope that you will be able to join us on both days, and look forward to your contributions to this critical work.
